How To Know Where Your Customers Are (Without Guessing)

Sales are the lifeblood of your business.

Without new customers your business would fail.

If you were to go fishing and you HAD to catch something to eat or you would starve…

Would you rather go to a large wide open lake and try to guess where the fish are…

Or a stocked pond, packed full of hungry fish searching for your bait?

Stocked-Pond

In this article I’m going to show you how to find a “stocked pond” full of your customers looking for your products or services.

Mark Michaud, the Senior Vice President of Strategy for Ariad Communications asks:

“What does your customer journey look like?  Where do they see the value?  And how do you create a journey that captures that?”

Marketing Sherpa a leading online research firm conducted a survey to find out how consumers find out about new products and how business owners can assist in the process.

The sample consisted of 2,021 consumers in the United States.

They asked the consumers in the survey “In which of the following ways, if any, do you learn about new products you would like to purchase? Please select all that apply.”

Here are the results that they gathered:

You can see in the above chart that “Using a search engine” was the 3rd highest response at 47%.  This was ahead of things such as newspapers, TV ads, social media, and Billboards.

But how do you increase your chances of these people finding your business, when they use a search engine to find new products and services?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Wikipedia defines Search Engine Optimization as the process of affecting the visibility of a websiteor a web pagein a search engine‘s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural,” “organic,” or “earned” results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.”

Now imagine if you use Search Engine optimization to get in front of your prospects, they decide to do business with you, and you blow them away with your great products and services.

Now you can tap into the 2nd highest result in the survey above, which was “Word-of-mouth from friends, family, colleagues” at 57%.

They will be at family functions, work, BBQ’s, birthday parties, holiday events, etc… telling their friends, family, and co-workers about you.

You have now captured 100% of the average consumers in how they search for new products.

When the profitability of your company is on the line, don’t guess, go where you know the fish are.
